Newman Cemetery in Rumford will host a two-hour program on local history and gravestone preservation Saturday, Oct. 17.
"Stories in Stone" runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at 100 Newman Ave., according to the Rhode Island 250 event listing. Rumford is part of East Providence.
East Providence Principal Planner Patrick Hanner is scheduled to discuss preservation efforts. Library director Meredith Bonds-Harmon will discuss stone carvers and gravestone styles, while TNT Gravestone Solutions will demonstrate repair and cleaning methods.
The program also includes a tour of Revolutionary War soldiers' graves. The organizer also offers attendees a chance to try cleaning techniques during the program. The organizers' original flyer confirms the event is free and open to the public.
