Vermont educators can register for workshops supporting a statewide student arts exhibition marking the 250th anniversary of Vermont's 1777 independence.
The Agency of Education's Oct. 30 field memo lists three in-person sessions, each from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Nov. 12 at the Campus at Marlboro Music, Nov. 19 at Vermont Public in Colchester, and Nov. 24 at Catamount Arts in St. Johnsbury.
A remote session is scheduled Dec. 17 from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. The agency will decide by Nov. 5 whether the Marlboro session runs, by Nov. 12 for Colchester and by Nov. 17 for St. Johnsbury, based on a five-participant minimum.
The Power of Place exhibition invites work from preschool through high school, career and technical education, and adult education students. Projects can use dance, media arts, music, theater or visual art to examine local history and communities.
The workshops are intended to help educators leave with a unit plan or the start of one and collaborate across subjects. Registration is linked in the field memo. Student work and release forms are due Feb. 17, 2027. Visual art will be shown at the State House in Montpelier March 3-26, and the agency says a performing arts exhibition is planned for spring 2027. Questions can go to Eric Howard, the agency's arts content specialist, at Eric.Howard@vermont.gov.
