Vermont plans to open online applications Oct. 26 for farm and timber disaster assistance covering eligible losses from weather events in 2023 and 2024.

Gov. Phil Scott's Sept. 30 announcement describes a $31.7 million program and sets a Dec. 31 closing date, with payments anticipated in early 2027.

The agriculture agency's guidance says eligible applicants may receive up to 95 percent of demonstrated losses, capped at $75,000 per applicant. Phase 1 is non-competitive. Applicants must still be operating and document eligible unmet losses.

The agriculture agency lists $25.8 million available and says funds not paid in Phase 1 will support a planned competitive second phase for infrastructure projects costing more than $75,000. The governor's announcement puts second-phase awards at up to $750,000. Losses already compensated elsewhere will not qualify for duplicate payment.

The timber program page lists damage photos, loss descriptions and relevant forester assessments, contracts or receipts among application materials. Farm applicants can use the agriculture agency's page for requirements and assistance contacts.
