Brown University will waive its $80 undergraduate application fee for seniors at Providence public high schools beginning with the current application cycle for fall 2027 admission.

The university announced the change Oct. 8. The waiver applies to first-year applicants who currently attend and will graduate from a Providence public high school, including qualifying public charter schools, for both early decision and regular decision.

To claim it, eligible applicants should choose "Providence Public School Fee Waiver" in the "Brown Questions" section of the Common Application. Brown's admission site lists qualifying schools and application deadlines of Nov. 1, 2026, for early decision and Jan. 5, 2027, for regular decision.

Brown says the policy is intended to encourage more Providence students to apply. It adds to existing waivers for students eligible for free or reduced-price school meals and participants in programs serving students from low-income families.
