Classical High School will begin its entrance exams Oct. 24, with separate sessions assigned by students' current schools and an Oct. 29 session for students unable to test on Saturdays because of religious observances.
Only eighth graders who are verified Providence residents are eligible to take the exam, according to the school's admissions page. Each listed session runs from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Classical, 770 Westminster St.
The Oct. 24 session covers students at DelSesto, Nathanael Greene, Nathan Bishop, Roger Williams and West Broadway middle schools.
The Oct. 31 session covers Esek Hopkins, private, parochial and charter schools, and Times 2 Academy Middle School. The Oct. 29 session is for religious observance conflicts.
Students should use the main entrance on Westminster Street and bring two No. 2 pencils, a drink and a snack. Families should begin the application process with their current school's guidance counselor.
The entrance exam is one part of admissions. Classical's committee also reviews the student's application profile, including transcripts, test scores and attendance. The school provides testing flyers in multiple languages on its admissions page.
