Four Providence schools will exit Rhode Island's Comprehensive Support and Improvement designation under the latest accountability results, the school district announced Oct. 9.
The schools are Webster Avenue Elementary, DelSesto Middle, Hope High and Mount Pleasant High. The designation, often called CSI, identifies schools requiring intensive support under the federal school accountability system.
The district said additional support and coaches will remain in place at the schools leaving the designation. Redesign work at DelSesto, Hope and Mount Pleasant will also continue.
The district reported that 18% of its students still attend a CSI school. That includes schools identified under a new criterion involving student groups that have had low performance for six consecutive years.
The district's overall star-rating breakdown remains weighted toward the lower ratings: it reported 10 one-star schools, 18 two-star schools, eight three-star schools and one five-star school.
Leaving the CSI designation is a change in a school's accountability status. The district said its latest state English language arts and mathematics assessment results showed slight changes, consistent with statewide trends.
