Brown University organist Mark Steinbach has released an album of music drawn from the university's annual Halloween midnight recital, recorded on Sayles Hall's restored 1903 pipe organ.

The 75-minute, 18-track album, "Midnight Organ," includes Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," Chopin's funeral march and John Williams' "Hedwig's Theme," according to Brown's Oct. 27 announcement.

Steinbach revived the late-night recital tradition after joining Brown in 1993. The annual Oct. 31 performance draws students to the darkened hall and its Hutchings-Votey organ, which has more than 3,000 pipes.

A multiyear renovation preceded the recording. Steinbach and recording engineer James Moses, a senior lecturer in Brown's music department, recorded over several days in June 2025, working at night to reduce background noise. Temperature changes affected tuning, and campus sounds could enter the recording.

The album is available through Supertrain Records on digital platforms and CD.
