Maine has selected eight people in its scallop drag-license lottery and three in its dive-license lottery, the Department of Marine Resources announced Oct. 16.
The drag selections went to Tabor Horton of Blue Hill, Reese Jones of Sedgwick, Aaron Simmons and Cole Poland of Bremen, Harrison Rossi of Milbridge, Cody Jodway of Lubec, Scott Moody of Harpswell and Rand Beattie of Birch Harbor.
Dan Vogel of Orland, David Cale of Machiasport and Jay Joslyn of Harpswell were selected for dive licenses.
The announcement follows an August change requiring drag lottery winners to complete an apprenticeship before applying for a commercial drag license. The department says drag apprentices have two complete scallop seasons to fulfill the requirements. DMR says drag winners must apply for an apprentice license within 30 days of notification. The announcement does not establish when individual winners received their notices.
The state received 303 drag entries and 54 dive entries. A $50 portion of each entry fee produced $17,850 for the department's Scallop Research Fund.
The lotteries are part of Maine's limited-entry licensing system.
