Job seekers can meet hiring representatives without traveling to a job fair when Maine CareerCenters holds a free online event Friday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Both job seekers and employers must register for the Spooktacular Virtual Hiring Event. The Department of Labor's Oct. 19 announcement directs participants to the event page on the state's workforce website.

Job seekers will be able to visit virtual employer booths, upload resumes, talk with hiring representatives and submit applications through the platform. Participants can use a computer or mobile device.

Employers can set up booths describing their businesses and openings and communicate through messaging, audio or video. To participate, employers must have an active Maine JobLink account and post their vacancies. The department says booth space is limited.

The online format is intended to reduce travel and child care barriers to meeting employers. The event page lists General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, the U.S. Postal Service, Hannaford and MaineGeneral Health among participating employers.

The department also directs workers seeking employment and training help outside the fair to the state's workforce website.
