Gov. Janet Mills began a four-day trade mission in Dublin on Oct. 19, after arriving in Ireland over the weekend, her office said. The visit is intended to develop business and institutional ties between Maine and Ireland.

The governor's office said the trip includes meetings on trade, investment, renewable energy and education. Mills attended Blue Ambition 2026, a gathering of policymakers, businesses and researchers focused on innovation and investment in ocean-based industries, held as part of the Global Bioeconomy Summit.

The governor's office says the meetings will include investment opportunities with Irish businesses.

Mills met Irish minister Timmy Dooley on Oct. 19 and had met Irish Senate President Mark Daly the previous evening, according to the governor's office.

The visit follows the creation of the Maine-Island of Ireland Trade Commission in 2023. The commission was established to strengthen economic and cultural ties.

Mills is expected to return to Maine later this week, according to the announcement. Her office says it will provide further updates during the visit.
