Providence Mayor-elect David Morales has announced nine policy committees that bring 135 people together to develop recommendations for his incoming administration, the transition team said Nov. 5. The published list names 124 committee members and 11 co-chairs.

The committees cover arts and culture; budget and revenue; education and youth engagement; housing and homelessness; jobs and economic opportunity; legal affairs; public and community safety; streets, planning and sustainability; and small business.

The team's announcement says members will work with Morales, 11 transition co-chairs and incoming staff leadership on early priorities and longer-term plans. Committee members are serving as volunteers.

Housing work is divided among homelessness response, social housing, and rent stabilization and tenants' rights. The budget group includes people listed with the City Council, the General Assembly and the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, along with former officeholders and policy researchers.

The small-business committee includes separate groups for the nighttime economy, business support, and hospitality and tourism. Arts participants include representatives from WaterFire, New Urban Arts, The Steel Yard and Wilbury Theatre Group.

Morales introduced the co-chairs Nov. 4. The earlier announcement identifies June Rose as transition executive director and Jenn Steinfeld as operations director.
