New Hampshire's state foliage report dated Oct. 20 points travelers toward central and southern areas as the Great North Woods and White Mountains move beyond peak color.

The Oct. 20 report lists the Lakes Region and Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region at peak. It puts the Monadnock region between peak and past peak, the Merrimack Valley at 75% to peak, and the Seacoast at 60% to 70% color change.

For the Lakes Region, the report suggests the Squam River Covered Bridge in Ashland. In the west, it points to the Sugar River Recreational Rail Trail and describes strong color along Route 4.

Seacoast suggestions include Stratham Hill Park and Odiorne Point State Park in Rye. The report also describes scattered remaining color around North Conway and Jackson, despite the White Mountains' past-peak designation.

These are observations dated Oct. 20, rather than a guarantee of conditions for the Oct. 24-25 weekend. Wind, frost and leaf loss can change the view between the report and a visit. Check the state's current report before making a long drive.
