Providence is seeking proposals for a one-year food-security pilot to help people living in housing for recovery from substance use obtain nutritious food consistently. Bids are due Oct. 19 at 2:15 p.m.
The Nourishing Recovery program would run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2027. The Department of Housing and Human Services is offering the opportunity through the city's opioid settlement funding. The department anticipates one contract totaling about $20,000. Eligible applicants must be in good standing as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization or certified recovery house.
The solicitation invites partnerships between recovery housing and food-access organizations. Eligible activities include on-site pantries, food deliveries and bulk grocery purchasing. Direct cash, gift cards or food vouchers for residents are excluded.
An Oct. 5 addendum clarifies that a single certified recovery house may apply, that one proposal may cover several properties and that funding may support staff time or direct food purchases. The addendum says the program has no extension options.
Bidders must submit sealed packages to the City Clerk's office, Room 311 at City Hall, 25 Dorrance St. The city anticipates awarding the contract Nov. 16, 2026.
