Rhode Island health and environmental officials have lifted the recommendation to avoid recreation at Blackamore Pond in Cranston after a harmful algae bloom cleared.
Recent laboratory testing found low algae levels and no detected toxins, meeting safety guidelines, according to the Department of Health's Oct. 27 notice.
The advisory concerned cyanobacteria, commonly called blue-green algae.
Officials caution that conditions can change quickly. Water resembling green paint or pea soup, thick floating mats and green scum along the shore are reasons to keep people and animals away. Toxins can remain after a visible bloom disappears.
Residents visiting other water bodies should check the Department of Environmental Management's current cyanobacteria advisories.
Suspected blooms can be reported to DEM.OWRCyano@dem.ri.gov, with a photograph when possible, or by calling 401-222-4700, pressing 3 and selecting the Office of Water Resources.
