WaterFire Providence has scheduled a full lighting for Saturday, Oct. 24, replacing the event canceled in September because of a forecast nor'easter.
The organizer lists vendors and other activities from 5 p.m., sunset at 5:50 p.m. and fires burning until 10 p.m. The date remains on its current upcoming-lightings calendar.
The Sept. 26 cancellation followed forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds. In announcing the replacement date, WaterFire said the October event would include vendors, shoreside programs and community activities.
The Oct. 24 lighting is a separate event from the Oct. 17 full lighting presented by United Way of Rhode Island. Visitors should use the current date-specific program rather than assuming sponsors or activities from the earlier evening will repeat.
WaterFire's website links to its visitor guide and current schedule. Check those pages for programming and any weather-related changes before traveling downtown.
The organizer also lists an Oct. 29 Starts at Sunset event at the Michael S. Van Leesten Pedestrian Bridge. That bridge event is separate from Saturday's full lighting.
