The Wild River Fire was mapped at 856 acres with 11% containment on Nov. 5, as crews worked around steep terrain, leaf litter and hazardous trees in the White Mountain National Forest in Coos County, N.H., about 7 miles southeast of Gorham.

The Forest Service's Nov. 5 update listed the acreage after improved mapping. The agency listed 89 personnel and said the cause remained undetermined.

Containment measures the share of the fire's perimeter secured against spread.

A Nov. 4 closure order covers Wild River Road, Shelburne Trail and specified stretches of High Water Trail, Kenduskeag Trail and Corridor 19, along with the surrounding area described in the order. The order runs through Jan. 1, 2027, unless rescinded earlier.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy's alert says the Appalachian Trail remains open, while the Kenduskeag Trail is closed. Hikers should check the full closure map and current alerts before choosing a route.
