Open enrollment for 2027 health coverage on CoverME.gov, Maine's state-run marketplace, began Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 15, 2027. Residents who enroll by Dec. 15 get coverage starting Jan. 1. Those who enroll from Dec. 16 through Jan. 15 get coverage starting Feb. 1.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Health Insurance Marketplace announced the sixth annual enrollment period in an Oct. 30 news release. After Jan. 15, consumers need a qualifying life event, such as marriage, divorce, a birth or adoption, or loss of employer coverage, to enroll.

Who it is for

The marketplace serves residents who do not have coverage through an employer, Medicare or MaineCare. The state says it is the only place eligible residents can get financial help with premiums for private plans. MaineCare enrollment is open year-round.

The office urges current enrollees to log in and compare 2027 options even if they want to keep their plan, because premiums, provider networks, covered medications and eligibility for financial help can change.

What the state reports

More than 58,000 Maine residents enrolled through CoverME.gov in last year's open enrollment, including more than 8,500 new consumers, according to the release. Nearly 75% of enrollees accessed financial savings. The release also says enrollees who qualify for financial help pay an average of $178 a month, without saying which year that average covers.

Hilary Schneider, the office's director, said most plans offer primary care, mental health and specialist visits, urgent care, chiropractic care, physical therapy and most prescription drugs "typically for a copay of $20-$60 per service," with more coverage available before the deductible is met. The release does not give 2027 premium figures.

Getting help

Free one-on-one help is available from certified brokers, local enrollment assisters and the Consumer Assistance Center at (866) 636-0355 (TTY: 711). The office plans to publish plan-selection updates every other Wednesday starting in mid-November. Selections become enrollments once a consumer pays the first monthly premium, and totals can change if people modify or cancel plans.
