Dartmouth Health notified 124 employees Sept. 15 that their positions were eliminated and canceled 303 open positions at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Southern Region.

The system said operating expenses had grown 12%, outpacing patient revenue. The changes followed an operational review that began in April and included restructuring executive and administrative leadership.

Its Sept. 15 announcement also identified Tele-ICU and Tele-ED among the programs affected. Dartmouth said their costs were unsustainable at their current scale without outside support. It said it was working with affected facilities to ensure alternative patient-care plans were in place.

The release did not identify a service end date or name all the facilities involved.

Affected employees would receive transition assistance and opportunities to pursue other jobs within the health system, Dartmouth said.
