Maura Healey won reelection as Massachusetts governor and Ed Markey won reelection to the U.S. Senate, according to The Associated Press.

AP posted its Healey call and Markey call at 8:01 p.m. Nov. 3. Both are Democrats. Those calls determine winners for AP's reporting; they are separate from the state's certification of the results.

Boston's own unofficial returns, last updated at 3:46 a.m. Nov. 4, showed the Democratic Healey-Driscoll ticket with 143,019 votes, compared with 32,772 for the Republican Minogue-Oliver ticket and 6,725 for the independent James-Kittredge ticket. Those are Boston votes only, from all 275 of the city's precincts, rather than a statewide tally.

Among the U.S. Senate candidates in Boston's count, Markey had 142,178 votes, Republican John Deaton 28,471, Socialism and Liberation candidate Joe Tache 7,727 and independent Shiva Ayyadurai 2,958. The city also reported 502 write-in votes. That race also had all 275 precincts reporting.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth does not publish unofficial statewide election-night results. Local clerks review the count and submit certified results to the state. For a state election, the local submission period is 15 days; statewide certification follows.

Boston says its election-night totals omit several categories that still require processing, including provisional and overseas ballots. Its deadline to certify official results is Nov. 18. The remaining count can change vote totals even after a race has been called.
