Providence is seeking proposals to buy and redevelop the Rochambeau Fire Station at 280 Rochambeau Ave., with bids due Nov. 16 at 2:15 p.m.
The city Public Property Department is issuing the request. An optional community open house is scheduled Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. Questions are due Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m., according to the bid package. The package labels this a re-bid but does not explain the outcome of the earlier round.
The 6,545-square-foot building sits in a residential zoning district with historic-preservation requirements. The city says it will reject proposals for student housing, short-term rentals or uses requiring a zoning change.
A July appraisal values the property at $830,000. The bid package says the sale cannot be for less than 90% of appraised value, equivalent to $747,000. Applicants must first qualify under a scoring process assessing experience, design, financing and project readiness; the highest price among qualified proposals would be recommended.
A sale requires City Council approval and transfer of title from the Providence Public Buildings Authority to the city. The city anticipates selecting a proposal and seeking authorization in winter 2026-27. Bids go to the city clerk at City Hall, 25 Dorrance St., Room 311.
Correction: An earlier version described the bid package as a second solicitation. It calls the request a re-bid and does not establish the number of earlier rounds.
