Providence is offering $750,000 through two grant programs for cultural buildings and festivals, with different application dates and eligibility rules.

The larger program allocates $700,000 over two fiscal years to improve nonprofit cultural facilities. The first round is open through Nov. 16, and the city expects most awards to range from $25,000 to $100,000. No matching contribution is required.

Eligible facilities must be in Providence and regularly host or teach arts and culture. Applicants must own the property or hold a qualifying long-term lease. Administrative offices without public arts use do not qualify, and organizations that received at least $100,000 in combined city grants, contracts or subsidies during fiscal 2025 and 2026 are excluded.

The city plans to distribute $350,000 in each of fiscal 2027 and 2028. First-round improvements must be achievable by June 30, 2028, and last at least five years.

A separate $50,000 festival fund offers grants of $1,500 to $4,000 for established cultural events in Providence that are free, accessible and open to the public. Qualifying festivals must take place during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, have a budget above $8,000 and meet the city's history and permitting requirements.

Festival applications will be accepted on a rolling basis starting Nov. 15, with a final deadline of May 15, 2027. An online festival-fund information session is scheduled for Oct. 28 from noon to 1 p.m.; organizers can request its link from cabotsi@providenceri.gov. A separate facilities-grant session is scheduled for Oct. 30 at noon, with registration through rnoon@providenceri.gov.

The city's full guidelines spell out the different ownership, lease and prior-funding rules. Applicants should use the guidelines for the specific program rather than assume both funds have the same requirements.
