Providence is asking Ward 11 residents to help choose how to spend $6.6 million on neighborhood infrastructure, beginning with a public brainstorming meeting Monday, Nov. 9.
The session runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Davey Lopes Recreation Center. Anyone may join the idea-generation phase, but the later vote will be limited to Ward 11 residents, according to the city's project page.
The process, known as participatory budgeting, lets residents propose projects and vote directly on which should receive city funding. Eligible ideas include street and sidewalk repairs, lighting, benches, trees and public art.
The designated project area is bounded by the I-95 service road and high schools to the north, Prairie Avenue to the east, Chester Avenue to the south and Broad Street to the west. Residents should check the city's map before developing a location-specific proposal.
The city plans three phases: ideas and priorities, project development, and voting. Construction on selected projects is expected to begin in 2027.
Councilor Mary Kay Harris initiated the effort with city planning staff and neighborhood leaders. Residents unable to attend can submit ideas through the project page.
